Crinoline-tastic

Thank you for all of your Pinterest suggestions – I am busy lusting after amazing vintage fashions and photos.  It really is hard to step away from the computer screen . . .

There are easily twenty new ideas for projects floating around in my head, but I have not been in the sewing room for three days.  Time to get back to work - no more distractions!

As I have previously mentioned, this skirt was my attempt to make a much more wearable piece of clothing from this pattern.

Unfortunately, this is only the second time I have worn the skirt – something I need to remedy.  And I believe part of the problem is that the print is extremely memorable.

Clearly, I have no problem wearing clothing that sticks out like a sore thumb, so that cannot be the issue.

But for some reason, a skirt like this gets stuck in the closet.  The plain skirts in my wardrobe get a ton of wear, but the wild prints?  Not so much.  There really is no way to disguise this particular skirt - but that is okay!  I just need to find more tops that work back to the skirt.  Or I could always make more of my favorite article of clothing - the dress!

  2. This fantastic skirt must be the apple of your closet's eye! :) Seriously, it's all kinds of adorable, super charming fun and is definitely memorable, but in only the best kind of way. I'd wear it for sure, too, and play around with red, grey, soft aqua, white, and maybe black tops, shoes, accessories, etc.

  3. Oh how wonderful is this!? It's delightful!

I totally get you when it comes to wild prints. I have a 40s dress with tiny little postmen and letters all over it, but for how much I love it, it rarely gets worn. :/ I think it is, like you said, memorable, and you don't want people thinking "Gee, didn't she just wear that?"

Best of luck on your future projects! Can't wait to see 'em!

  4. That looks beautiful with the teal top! The darker color brings out even more of the pretty colors in the skirt.
Did you get a new hair style? Love the curly curls!

  5. Love the skirt with the crinoline. Makes it look like a flared skirt should! I get you with the "print' thing; the skirt is so distinctive that it feels weird to wear it a lot..however, nowadays with the trend for prints being "mixed up together", you might want to get experimental/adventurous and try it with a few PRINT tops; this skirt is spotted, so look at STRIPES or something in an angular print, maybe in black and white?

  7. This is gorgeous, but I do agree about patterned skirts not getting as much wear. I've just made a plain red circle skirt that is now in regular rotation with my other plain skirts. But patterns are so fun and hard to stay away from.
