Scattered Blossoms

Me-Made-May is in full swing, and I love the incredible enthusiasm for self-made garments!

I am not officially participating in Me-Made-May, however, I generally wear something I have sewn or knit at least three or four days a week all year long.

So while I may not be taking daily pictures, I am right there with all of you!

In this warm weather, I am once again discovering the other side of my closet, filled with cotton frocks and lightweight skirts and blouses.  And this dress is what I pulled out for Friday.  Would I get bored with cotton dresses if it was feasible to wear them 365 days a year?  Perhaps, but I find it very hard to believe!

And while that list of project ideas is becoming a bit overwhelming, this dress makes me want to pull out Butterick 6175 and make myself another dress.

There are too many lovely distractions out there!

  7. Beautiful dress, can I ask what size you made this in?
I have not sewn from a vintage pattern before, is this overly tricky

    1. This is actually a Butterick vintage reproduction, so I use my standard Big 4 size: a 12. All I need to alter is my standard adjustments and it fits me fine. Actually, the adjustments are the same ones I would make to a vintage size 16 or 18/Bust 34.

But there really is no reason to be scared about original vintage patterns - there may be more details to work through, but it you take them step by step, everything comes together! When in doubt, just make a muslin or work with a fabric that is not incredibly precious to you.
